Renovations underway at Chalker Place
Paul Shelley, Minister of Human
Resources, Labour and Employment and minister responsible for
Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), and John
Ottenheimer, MHA for St. John’s East, today announced $180,000 in
upgrading and renovation work that is being completed on NLHC-owned
units at Chalker Place.
The funds are being spent to complete exterior renovations on three
buildings totaling nine units, and include new roofing, window and door
replacement and installation of new siding.
“This expenditure, once again, represents the commitment this
government has, through NLHC, to improving our neighbourhoods,” said
Minister Shelley. “The corporation continues to work diligently at
upgrading and maintaining the 5,700 properties that it owns throughout
the province.”
“I’m pleased to see these units being renovated,” said Minister
Ottenheimer. “Given the harsh climate we endure in this province,
keeping properties in the best possible condition is always a
challenge, however, I know NLHC is committed to providing safe,
comfortable and affordable housing to those who need it most.”
Renovation work on these units is being done by NLHC’s own work force.
It is anticipated all the work will be completed by September 2006.
